Muscle pain and discomfort are treated temporarily with carisoprodol. It frequently coexists with rest, physical therapy, and other therapies. It works by improving in muscular relaxation.

Muscle relaxants like carisoprodol prevent the brain from receiving pain signals from the nerves. When treating skeletal muscle injuries or disorders like pain, carisoprodol is combined with rest and physical therapy. Since there is little evidence to support the usefulness of carisoprodol over a lengthy period of time and most skeletal muscle injuries are transient in nature, it should only be used for brief periods (up to two or three weeks).
